Hildebrand, monk of Cluny, and later Abbot and Cardinal, succeeded Alexander II as Pope Gregory VII.  He displayed wonderful energy and constancy in defence of the liberty of the Church.  He died A.D. 1085.

St. Urban suffered martyrdom A.D. 230.

Bede was a Benedictine, a holy monk of Jarrow, in the eighth century.  He was of great learning and is famous in Christian literature.  He died A.D. 735.

St. John died in a dungeon from the hardships he had to endure, A.D. 526.

St. Augustine of Canterbury, sent by St. Gregory the Great to the Anglo-Saxons, is the great Apostle of England and the first Archbishop of Canterbury.  He died A.D. 604.

St. Paul declares that God "hath made us sit together in the heavenly places, thorugh Christ Jesus."  "There where the head has gone, the Body is called to follow!"
