Blessing of the Pipe Organ & Organ Recital

St. Rose of Lima Parish

The public is invited to a family-friendly musical program and dedication of the newly refurbished pipe organ at St. Rose of Lima (8th & Chestnut, Quincy) on Friday, August 27th at 5:00 pm. The free recital will feature mostly classical and sacred pieces performed by three organists with an explanation of the two-year project by Keith Williams of Buzard Organ Builders in Champaign, Illinois. There has been a complete rebuild while retaining the original nine hundred fourteen pipes from 1912. The program will be audio-taped by Rick Bybee with CDs available at a later time.

Pastor Rev. Fr. Joseph Portzer, F.S.S.P., will give a special blessing at the opening and two Latin hymns will be played including Schubert's "Ave Maria."

Rev. Fr. Robert Ferguson, F.S.S.P., Vice Rector and moral theology professor at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary located in Denton, Nebraska, will perform works by Mozart and Bach and will be featured on the well-known "Toccata from Symphony V" by Charles-Marie Widor.

The other guest organist who will play repertoire by Vierne, Bach, Locklair, and Durufle is Dr. Kipp Cortez from Champaign, Illinois. He holds degrees in organ and sacred music from Valparaiso University and University of Michigan with a doctorate in musical arts.

Ms. Charlotte Stroot, St. Rose of Lima music coordinator, organist, and adult choir director, has chosen to play "Prelude in Classic Style" by Gordon Young.

Light refreshments in the parish hall will follow the program. No admission charge.
